GIMME SOME VITAMIN D
Can you believe we’re nearly half way through the year? Crazy times. I must admit I’ve been struggling for the past few weeks to settle on my spring/summer wardrobe essentials as the weather has been so temperamental. Usually I have no trouble dressing appropriately for the weather!
I’ve tried not to let it get me down though and have managed to be fairly creative with what I already own. Ironically, the day I’m writing this post happens to be the hottest day of the year so far. My fake tanning routine is out in full force. Although, without wanting to sound too pessimistic, past experience suggests the sunshine won’t last! (UPDATE: it’s now bank holiday Monday and it’s grey and raining.)
I’m the kind of person that gets very cold and am always layering up my clothes as I can’t bear to be shivering. Plus my workplace has the coldest air conditioning system ever. I basically have to dress for winter when I’m in the office. On the other hand, I want to make the most of all the lovely items in the shops at the moment. Therefore it’s been a balancing act between being a comfortable temperature and freshening up my everyday outfits. Now that I’ve rambled on about the weather – how very British of me – let’s get into my three spring/summer wardrobe essentials that I think anyone living in the UK could benefit from.
THE THREE SPRING/SUMMER WARDROBE ESSENTIALS YOU NEED
1. Loose fitting fabrics. I’ve been wearing my M&S black jersey trousers far too much. They may not be the most flattering shape ever but they’re so comfy I don’t care. They’re high-waisted so go well with crop tops (if you’re like me and don’t want your stomach out) or you can tuck a shirt or blouse into them. I love this Miss Selfridge striped dress, I find it so effortless and pretty. There are a lot of loose-fitting blouses and trousers around at the moment and for good reason. They keep you covered but still allow a bit of breeze. A definite spring/summer wardrobe essential!
2. A (faux) leather jacket. Believe it or not, this is a wardrobe essential I’ve only just realised the need for. While I would love a pastel pink jacket, I went for the safe option and went for the safe black option from Zara which is both affordable and flattering. I love the frill detailing on the hem and sleeves! I have a few macs I wear during the day But I find a leather jacket is perfect if I’m going out in the evening and don’t want to be wearing something too heavy. I’m not sure how I’ve lived without a jacket like this for so long!
3. Fine knit jumpers. Living in the UK, you are able to wear some form of jumper pretty much all year long. All you need to do is very the thickness of the knitwear. For example, I’ve been wearing this Zara ruffle jumper to death. It’s three-quarter length sleeves mean I don’t get too hot. While the ruffle detail makes it a bit more special than your average jumper. Cream or white jumpers are my usual picks because they look fresh and fit in well with my other spring/summer styles.
To go alongside this post, I filmed my first lookbook video a week ago (scroll down for the vid). With the help of my friend Kirsty, we managed to cover three of my spring/summer style essentials and how I work them into my outfits. As always feedback is very welcome! I’ve tried to include as many items as I can which are still available in the shops. I hope you are having a wonderful bank holiday weekend!
I’d love to know what your spring/summer style essentials have been so far this year?
