Rome Diaries: Day Two Ancient Rome and cocktails!

On day two we woke up ready for our trip to the Colosseum. We booked tickets online for both this and the Vatican and I can't recommend doing so enough because you save A LOT of queuing time. This was definitely the hottest day we experienced while we were there. Just look at the blue skies!

It was a relatively easy walk to get there.

Before we knew it we were in front of the main attraction.

Once we got inside I was surprised at how much there was to look around. I'd been told by a couple of people that the Colosseum had let them down when they saw it, but I loved it.  The history surrounding it and the fact that it is still standing today just fascinates me, you definitely have to pay a visit if you're in Rome.

We attempted a fair few selfies along with everyone else, but it was hard to see in the sun!

It took a few hours to see everything and after getting slightly lost trying to find somewhere else (I won't go into that) we arrived back in familiar grounds and feeling hangry we got a fish salad and more gelato. It's hard to pick my favourite one of the trip but this was up there! Pistachio (again), dark chocolate and a coconut macaroon - sooooo good.

After a long day of walking in the heat, we were ready for a cocktail or two. We relaxed for a bit in the hotel then got ready and decided to stay fairly local for dinner and drinks as we were pretty tired.

I had an apple white wine spritzer which was recommended to me and was really refreshing. We were kindly given some free nibbles with our drinks. Everyone was so friendly!

We then had some pumpkin gnocchi with pistachios which was the nicest 'pasta' I've ever had, even though my friend kept reminding me it technically isn't pasta. But I feel like I can say I've tried Italian pasta anyway.

Sadly after the drinks I couldn't finish it or manage dessert, so we went back to the hotel and had wine and gnocchi-induced dreams. Tomorrow we head to my favourite place, the Vatican!
