The benefits of hypnotherapy: an interview with Louise Nonweiler

Today's blog post is a bit different to my usual posts because it's an interview with life coach and hypnotherapist Lousie Nonweiler. I don't normally accept guest posts on my blog but this is a topic very dear to my heart. Having been a client of Louise's before, when she got in touch with me I thought it was a great opportunity to open this discussion on my blog. So a bit of backstory first. A few years back I was going through a pretty rough patch where I was a bit too obsessed with being thin and was generally unhappy in my job. My self confidence was at a particularly low point. I've always bee very self aware so I knew that because I felt out of control with where my life was going and I had some strong desires about what I wanted to achieve, I was trying to control it with my masculine energy (a topic I've loved learning about recently) through my physical appearance. A lot of emotions came to the surface on a family holiday  which I mention briefly in this post on Instagram and from then on I said to myself that I would do whatever I could to heal myself from the inside out.

While I know doctor's and medicine have their place, I personally believe that so many illnesses, whether mental or physical, can be healed using the mind. I think we're just on the cusp of really exploring how powerful the mind is and how we can use it to our advantage. I began researching alternative therapies in the Oxfordshire area once I was back from holiday. My advice would be to be patient in your search for the right person. I had a failed couple of sessions with a more 'traditional' talking therapist who I didn't gel with before finding Louise.

I went to Louise for a few hypnotherapy sessions and felt so much better by the end of it. On our last session I'd found out I got a new job, started dating someone I really liked, my stress-induced bloating and reduced and felt a lot more positive about the future. Of course it is possible to do the mindset work on your own but I think sometimes it's about having an unbiased person, seeing your 'problems' from a different perspective and providing a safe space which does the trick. I'd like to thank Louise for her support and for taking the time to answer my questions below. I hope you find my story and this post helpful and I'd love to know if hypnotherapy is something you'd be interested in trying. Feel free to message me on Instagram or contact Louise for more information about this method of healing.

What first attracted you to hypnotherapy and life coaching?

I was first attracted to hypnotherapy and life coaching when I was living in Australia. At the time I was going through a difficult period in my life and so I went to see a hypnotherapist and life coach. After a few sessions I felt amazing! It was a life changing experience for me, and so I then decided that this is what I wanted to do. I have a passion for helping people and this for me, was the ideal career.

I feel like there are a lot of misconceptions surrounding life coaching and hypnotherapy but in my opinion mental health and alternative therapies are overlooked in the healthcare system! What's your experience of this?

There still seems to be a lot of misconceptions around regarding alternative therapies. However, over the last couple of years I do think that the healthcare system is more on board with hypnotherapy and other alternative therapies. Hypnotherapy has now been proven to be the most effective alternative therapy in treating IBS. Hopefully over time alternative therapies such as hypnotherapy, life coaching and bodywork therapies will be offered more as treatment.

Are there any particular issues that you feel people will be seeking help with more frequently over the next five years?

Anxiety and stress are very common issues. I do feel that over the next five years, there may be an increase. The positive news is that people are more open to seeking help and dealing with their issues. There are many different therapies and techniques that a person can use. Self-hypnosis, which is what I teach many of my clients, is an extremely valuable technique. It can be used for many different things such as; relaxation, reducing stress and anxiety, pain control, changing habits and behaviours and much more.

I've previously spoken about my issues around low self-esteem and weight loss on my social media. How can hypnotherapy help people like me who have/previously had body image issues or low self-esteem?

Great question – the most important thing is to find out where this stemmed from. Everyone is unique and has their own different story so, it is about trying to find out why they have self-esteem issues or body image issues. Once we work through this and find out the root cause, hypnotherapy can be extremely beneficial in helping a person to become more positive, confident, happier in themselves.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="5001" img_size="full" alignment="center"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Do you have any daily practices that keep you feeling positive and centred?

I use self-hypnosis on a daily basis, anywhere from five minutes up to an hour. It really helps to keep me grounded and centred. I also enjoy yoga, meditation, early nights, healthy food and practice reiki healing weekly. I think it is important for us to spend time each week on ‘self-care’. Life can be overwhelming and busy sometimes, so I feel that everyone should try and take time to relax, rebalance and recharge in some way.

Is there a typical format to a hypnotherapy session?

The first session is spending time talking and finding out what is going on for my client. It’s important that they have as much time as they need to discuss what is going on for them. After this we start the process through hypnosis. Everything is explained in great detail, so that my cient is completely comfortable with the work we are doing. Normally, clients have between two-five sessions. Some of my clients like to come every few weeks as it helps them to relax and feel more positive.

Are the results from hypnotherapy permanent?

The results can be permanent. It depends on the individual and the issue. Because hypnosis is working with the unconscious part of the mind, there is never any guarantee that the changes will be permanent. Issues such as stopping smoking has a very high success rate and many find that they never smoke another cigarette again. Also, issues such as fears and phobias can be treated in a couple of sessions and many find that these never return.

What's one piece of advice you wish you knew when you started running your own business?

Keep things simple! Work on your niche market and keep working hard. Eventually the hard work and passion for what you are doing does have its rewards.

How can people get in touch with you to find out more about the services you offer?
